“It’s not ok to roll out a programme in schools requiring pupils to have access to a device, without making sure that every pupil can access a device.”

*Digital Exclusion: a modern scourge that should never have happened
50% of our work is in the UK, primarily Scotland. We supply devices to a host of charities who support digitally excluded families, including the School Uniform Bank, mental health charities, housing associations, playgroups, carers and young carers and Access 2 Employment . We focus on charities supporting young people and families, but we will try to help anyone improve their life prospects by access to a device. We work via referrals from local authorities, charities and other support organisations.
A laptop is required for school pupils to access Glow, Scotland’s national digital learning platform used by every local authority. Pupils log in to access their homework and submit work. But not everyone has access to a device at home, so a digital divide has been created in education. So far, attempts to ensure every pupil has a laptop or tablet, by government and local authorities, have failed.
We will continue to tackle this until every child has the device they need to have an equal chance at life.
